Cub Scout Pack 10

Parent/Leader Meeting Summary

September 9, 2004

Welcome

The Pack Committee Chairman, John Albers, welcomed everyone.

Announcements

John distributed the draft planning calendar, noting that it would be discussed later in the meeting.

Bill recounted his meeting with Jim Beaudoin on the subject of creating a new Boy Scout Troop.  Toby noted that there was a Troop associated with Visitation several years ago.

There will be a Pack 10 booth at the South Tacoma Safe Streets event on September 25.

Secretary’s Report

Elisabeth asked for comments or changes to the minutes of the July meeting.

Kristin’s name will be changed to its correct spelling.

Treasurer’s Report

Kristin Brenner handed out balance sheets for the Pack 10 account, noting a couple of discrepancies between the Council balance and ours.  She went on to say she did some research regarding the site of Pack 10 funds, which are currently at HarborStone Credit Union.  She recommended that we move our account to Home Street Bank, which offers a no-fee checking account if a minimum of $1,000 is present.  A motion to transfer funds to Home Street Bank was offered, seconded and passed unanimously.  Kristin, John and Joe L. will proceed with the transfer, putting Kristin’s and John’s names on the account due to their positions as Treasurer and Chairman of Pack 10.

Advancement Report

Deborah noted that there are several advancements, particularly the Tiger Den # 5 which will be bridging over to Wolf at the next Pack meeting.

Public Relations Report

Tina was absent.

Den Leaders Report

Bill said he met with Den 5’s new leaders, Mary Wawrin and Elizabeth DeRocher.  Toby noted that his Webelos den is planning a camping trip and will be welcoming a new scout to the den.

Annette mentioned that she spoke to a parent of a potential scout attending Arlington Elementary and asked whether boys from that school could join Pack 10.  Bill said he thought there was a Pack with Arlington in its “territory”

but that the boy could attend a Visitation recruitment for more information

about scouting.

Old Business

The August Pack meeting at Point Defiance had good attendance and the re-sited picnic worked well.

Bill said the recruiting meeting went well, with  3 new families signing up for the Tiger den.  Interested families from Edison will be invited to attend our orientation meeting and we will assign dens and recruit leaders at that time.

The 2004-05 calendar work-in-progress was discussed and many changes were proposed.  One issue still to be decided is the Scouting for Food event on March

12 and 19, which falls on one of the same weekends as the annual Visitation School auction.

At the September Pack Meeting all dens will participate in creating a Pack 10 ten-year time capsule.  The dens should bring items which can be vacuum sealed in a 1 gallon-sized bag.  Other items on the meeting agenda include the den bridging and announcement of the popcorn sale.  Den 1 was assigned the skit and the Webelos will do the song.  Three door prizes with value of $5 - $10 will be given randomly to people in attendance at the meeting.

Roger said there have been technical difficulties to launching the Pack’s FTP site.  This is the project involving PackMaster software.  Roger will continue to work on the web site with Pat Ferdig.

New Business

Joe L. will be visiting den meetings during September and presenting the parent volunteer sign-up sheet at the Pack meeting.  It is hoped that all volunteer positions will be filled early in the planning year.

Other Business

Toby suggested that Pack 10 make something for the Visitation Auction.

Getting agreement, he said he would come up with a design and discuss the item with everyone at a later meeting.

Next Meeting:  October 7, 2004
